Intangible Projects

Idea 1: Layered Sampler
In this project, multiple users would face a camera, holding their phones with solid colors displayed on the screen. The camera would pick up the solid color and, based on the color and the position of the phone, would play back audio samples.
There is potential to turn this into a more musical project—where samples repeat and users move around to change how the sample sounds—or into a project with some kind of database-like oral history angle. Perhaps users can store their own audio in the database using the microphones on their devices. If so, the space where the project is set up becomes this layered collection of sounds and perhaps memories.
Idea 2: Line of Scrimmage
I’m afraid that I or my partner is going to become infected with the novel coronavirus. If this happens, our apartment will have to be split in two parts for as long as possible, in an effort to protect whichever of us has not been infected yet.
One way to accomplish this might be to put in some kind of line. Perhaps a physical line, but maybe there’s an improvement that could be made with computer vision. Perhaps a pattern of movement can be recorded to adjust where the line should be on any particular day, and the line can be drawn with a computer or phone.
