Midterm Concept
Last updated: Oct 7, 2020
Last year I spent some time on a hardware prototype of a low-frequency oscillator that fetches live tide data to modulate other oscillators in a modular synthesizer. Link to first post. Link to second post. I completed the hardware project (having determined the need for inputs and outputs and modulation sites), but I didn’t spend a lot of time working on the programming side.
I would like to spend more time on the topical and technical side of this particular oscillator, and for the midterm I intend to have a Max/MSP-based prototype.
The planned LFO centers around four live datastreams of tidal data from around the world, and allows them to be modulated and compared and contrasted. I want to be able to:
- let the tides run naturally as an LFO with an approximate 12.5hr period
- address specific points within the tidal table as with control voltage,
- force the oscillation up into the audible range so that the tide can be heard as a wave
